Checking cables and components with diagnostic unit -VAG 1598/31-
Instruction. Use hand-held multimeter -VAG 1526C- or multimeter -VAG 1715- and voltage tester -VAG 1527 V- to check. To connect test equipment to the diagnostic box -VAG 1598/31-, use the auxiliary cables from the accessory measuring kit -VAG 1594 C-. When the connectors are disconnected from the engine control unit, the adapted values are deleted, the contents of the fault memory are retained. The diagnostic unit -VAG 1598/31- is designed in such a way that it can be simultaneously connected to the wiring harness leading to the engine control unit and to the engine control unit itself. The advantage of this design is the complete preservation of the operability of the electronic engine control unit when connecting the diagnostic unit (e.g. measuring signals while the engine is running). The need to additionally connect the diagnostic unit to the engine control unit is indicated in the corresponding descriptions of the test process. To avoid damage to the electronic components, before connecting the measuring probes, the appropriate measuring range must be set and the test conditions must be observed.
Connect diagnostic unit -VAG 1598/31-
Raise the floor mat in the footwell on the left. Removal and installation of a floor rug. Remove securing bolts -arrow- for covers. Remove cover.
Unlock electrical connector on engine control unit -1- and disconnect electrical connector.
Connect diagnostic unit -VAG 1598/31- to connector on wiring harness. Terminal "masses" must be connected to "mass". Carry out an inspection in accordance with the description of the repair work. After reconnecting the engine control unit, interrogate and, if necessary, clear the fault memory. The diagnostic tester -VAS 5052- must be used.
Replacing diesel direct injection system control unit -J248-
Instruction. Depending on performance (900 or 1500 watt auxiliary heater element -Z35- fitted) various versions of the engine control unit are installed. When the connectors are disconnected from the engine control unit, the adapted values are deleted, the contents of the fault memory are retained.
