Note. Pyrotechnic parts include: Airbag modules. Seat belt tensioners. Seat belt force limiters (depending on the configuration). Emergency battery switches (depending on the set)
Inspection, installation and repair work may only be carried out by trained specialists. Airbags do not have replacement intervals. Under no circumstances should you use a voltage indicator, voltmeter or ohmmeter to check. Pyrotechnic parts may only be checked in their installed condition using a diagnostic device approved by the manufacturer. complex. When performing work on pyrotechnic components and the Airbag control unit -J234-, the battery ground cable must be disconnected with the ignition ON. Then close the negative terminal. After disconnecting the battery, you need to wait for 10 seconds. Connect the battery only with the ignition ON. At the same time, there should be no people inside the car. Exception: vehicles with a battery in the passenger compartment. In this case, you must not be in the area of possible activation of the Airbag and seat belts. Observe measures after disconnecting the battery. Before performing work on the pyrotechnic components of the security system, for example, disconnecting the electrical connection. connector, the mechanic must remove the static charge. Electrostatic charge is removed by touching grounded metal elements, e.g. short touch to the door lock. After contact with activated pyrotechnic parts of the safety system, you must wash your hands. Pyrotechnic components are not allowed to be opened or repaired; it is fundamentally important to use only new nodes (danger of injury). It is prohibited to install pyrotechnic parts that are damaged or parts that have fallen onto a hard surface. Pyrotechnic units must be installed immediately after removal from the transport container. When stopping work, put the pyrotechnic unit back into the transport container. It is prohibited to leave the pyrotechnic unit unattended. When connecting the pyrotechnic parts of the restraint system, only the mechanic working with them should be in the vehicle's interior. Pyrotechnic parts must not be lubricated or treated with cleaning agents or other similar products. If any contamination such as oil, grease, varnish, paint or solvent penetrates into the fabric, always replace the module. Pyrotechnic parts must not be exposed even briefly to temperatures above 100°C.
Special instructions for driver and front passenger airbags
When removed, store the driver's and front passenger's Airbag modules with the soft side facing up. When replacing Airbag modules, be sure to follow the following procedure:
- 1. Remove the old Airbag and lower it with the pillow side up;
- 2. Remove the new Airbag from the transport container and lower it with the pillow side facing up;
- 3. Immediately place the old module into the transport container;
- 4. Install a new Airbag module.
Special instructions for seat belt tensioners
Handle the seat belt tensioner modules very carefully when removing and installing them. There is a high risk of injury if the seat belt tensioner modules are handled incorrectly. Seat belt pretensioners with mechanical damage (chips, cracks) subject to mandatory replacement. The open end of the pretensioner should never point towards people. When connecting the seat belt tensioner module, all mechanical parts, including the 3-point seat belt components, must be properly secured. If connecting the seat belt tensioner is not possible due to limited installation space, the seat belt must be completely retracted before installation. This will reduce the risk while following the following safety instructions. These instructions primarily include disconnecting the battery and having a mechanic remove any electrostatic charge before connecting the seat belt tensioner. Depending on the severity of the impact, the seat belt tensioner may operate, but the belt tension limiter may not. These units should be treated as if they were not working!
Accident without airbag activation
If the Airbag warning lamp -K75- does not indicate a malfunction, then there is no need to change the pyrotechnic components of the Airbag. Carry out a separate check of the seat belts.
