The engines are equipped with a pressure lubrication system. The oil pump draws engine oil from the sump through the screen and delivers it under pressure through the oil filter. There is a pressure reducing valve on the pressure side of the oil pump. With excess oil pressure, the valve opens and part of the oil flows back into the oil pan.
Through the central part of the filter cartridge, the filtered oil enters the main oil passage. There is an oil pressure indicator sensor, which, through a warning lamp in the instrument panel block, indicates to the driver that an unacceptable decrease in oil pressure is. When the oil filter becomes clogged, the bypass valve directs the oil without filtering directly into the main oil passage.
Lubricating channels for crankshaft bearings branch off from the main oil channel. Through inclined channels in the crankshaft, oil flows to the connecting rod bearings. The piston bottom is cooled through nozzles that supply oil from below to the piston.
At the same time, engine oil flows through vertical pipelines into the cylinder head, supplying oil to the camshaft bearings and valve clearance compensators.
Depending on the version, the oil is cooled by means of a radiator located on the oil filter flange and included in the engine cooling system.
Oil consumption
Oil consumption refers to the amount of oil that is consumed during the combustion process. In no case should this be understood as oil consumption associated with its leakage due to leaks through the oil pan, cylinder head cover, etc.
Normal oil consumption results from the combustion of a small amount of oil in the cylinders, along with exhaust emissions and wear. In addition, oil is lost as a result of the high temperature and high pressure that take place in the engine. Oil loss is also affected by operating conditions, such as driving style, as well as manufacturing tolerances of engine components. Oil consumption should not exceed 1.0 l/1000 km.
Warning: Never fill oil above the Max. If the oil has been overfilled, the excess must be pumped out. Otherwise, the catalytic converter may be damaged by unburned oil entering it.
