Withdrawal
Disconnect the ground wire in the battery with the ignition off. Remove soundproof screen.
Instruction. Before removing the V-ribbed belt, mark the direction of its movement with chalk or a felt-tip pen. Reverse movement of a belt that has already been used may cause it to break.
To loosen the tension of the V-ribbed belt, use a ring wrench to tilt the tensioner in the direction -arrow-. Secure poly V-belt tensioner with drift -T10060 A- in holes. Remove poly V-belt. Wash the outside of the hood and wipe with suede.
Unlock the service cover from the inside. Unlock bonnet -arrows- and pull forward slightly. Pull bonnet cover -VAS 6011- onto bonnet. Remove the hood. Remove the engine compartment cover. Remove the noise protection located below, to do this, remove the hose of the crankcase ventilation system. Unplug electrical connector -1- for intake manifold pressure sender -G71-. Release electrical cables. Detach air hose -2- between intercooler and intake pipe.
Unscrew tensioner for poly V-belt -arrows-.
Unscrew terminal wire 30/B+ -pos. 2- from the generator. Disconnect connector -1-.
Remove alternator mounting bolts -1- and -2-. If the alternator sticks in the bracket, tighten the mounting bolt again to 2 turns. Gently tap the bolt heads with the flat side of a hammer to loosen the threaded bushings securing the alternator.
Remove alternator downwards.
Installation
Install in reverse order, paying attention to the following. To facilitate the installation of the generator, slide the mounting bolts a little back on the bushings. This should facilitate the movement of the alternator fastening bushes, since otherwise the clamping force of the bushing, despite the corresponding torque, is too small. Pay attention to the correct seating and running of the V-ribbed belt.
Poly V-belt travel in vehicles without air conditioning
Slide the V-ribbed belt onto the crankshaft and alternator pulleys.
Poly V-belt travel on vehicles with air conditioning
Slide the V-ribbed belt onto the crankshaft and alternator pulleys. On the air conditioning compressor pulley, install the V-ribbed belt last.
All cars
Unload the tensioner and pull the drift -T10060 A- out of the hole. Check that the V-ribbed belt is correctly seated. Connect battery. Start the engine and check the movement of the drive belt.
Tightening torques:
- Generator to holder: 25 Nm
- V-ribbed belt tensioner to holder: 25 Nm
- Terminal 30/B+ to alternator: 16 Nm
