Withdrawal
Disconnect the ground wire in the battery with the ignition off. Wash the outside of the hood and wipe with suede. Unlock the service cover from the inside. Unlock the hood and pull forward a little. Pull bonnet cover -VAS 6011- onto bonnet. Remove the hood. Remove the resonator on the air hose -arrow 1-, to do this press the release buttons. Remove air duct; to do this, release spring clips -arrows 2- using hose clip pliers -VAG 1921-. Remove air duct.
Unscrew bolts -2-. Remove water trap -3- in -direction of arrow-. Detach hose -1- from lock carrier and air intake housing. Mark the direction of rotation of the V-ribbed belt with chalk or felt-tip pen. Reversing the running direction of a previously used belt can damage it.
To loosen the poly V-belt, turn the tensioner in -arrow- with a ring spanner. Secure poly V-belt tensioner with drift -T10060 A- in holes. Remove poly V-belt. Turn the oil filler neck past the stop towards the right side of the vehicle -arrow-. Remove the oil filler pipe upwards.
Remove screws -arrows-. Remove the oil filling container from the lock shelf. Remove the oil filling tube by pressing the release buttons.
Remove alternator mounting bolts -1- and -2-. Remove the generator from the holder and turn it to the right with the wires attached.
If the alternator is clamped in the bracket, tighten the fastening bolts 2 turns again. Gently tap the bolt heads with the flat surface of a hammer to unlock the alternator mounting bushings. Unscrew terminal 30/B+ wire -pos.1- from alternator. Disconnect connector -2-. Remove the alternator in an upward direction.
Installation
Install in reverse order, paying attention to the following. To facilitate the installation of the generator, slide the mounting bolts a little back on the bushings. This should facilitate the movement of the alternator mounting bushes, since otherwise the clamping force of the bushing is too low despite the corresponding torque.
Pay attention to the correct seating and running of the V-ribbed belt.
Poly V-belt travel on vehicles with air conditioning
1. Belt pulley crankshaft
2. Tension roller
3. Alternator pulley
4. Air conditioning compressor pulley
5. V-ribbed belt
Put the V-ribbed belt on the track-room and generator belt pulleys. On the air conditioning compressor pulley, install the V-ribbed belt last. Unload tensioner and remove drift -T10060 A- from bores. Check the correct installation of the V-ribbed belt. Connect battery. Start engine and check belt movement.
