General information about the exhaust system (Audi A6 C5)

The main elements of the exhaust system are the main and additional mufflers, the inlet pipe, the catalytic converter, the exhaust manifold, and the turbocharger (if provided). Exhaust systems may have some differences, depending on the type of engine the vehicle is equipped with (see illustrations 1.0 and 1.0a).

The main and additional mufflers are connected to the intake pipe, but in case of repair, the mufflers can be replaced separately. In this case, the connecting pipe should be cut along the marks applied by the manufacturer and connected with a double clamp (see arrows in illustrations 1.0b and 1.0c), the pipe joint must be located in the center of the clamp.

The exhaust system parts have a threaded connection or are secured together with clamps. Self-locking nuts and sealing gaskets should be replaced with new ones after dismantling the system. Damaged or porous rubber cushions and rings of the system suspension are subject to replacement.
