A special key used to remove the radio from a car

The factory installed radio is equipped with a retractable holder that allows for quick removal and installation. This requires a special retractable clamp, which is included in the sale or can be purchased separately.

To remove the factory installed radio, two 3344 tools are required.

The radio receiver is supplied with a code as standard to protect against theft. The code prevents unauthorized switching on of the radio receiver if its power supply has been interrupted. The radio receiver power supply is interrupted, for example, when it is removed, disconnected from the battery, or when the fuse burns out.

If the radio is coded, you must find out the code before disconnecting the battery or removing it. The individual code is provided in the radio's operating manual. It should not be stored in the vehicle.

If the code is unknown, only an AUDI service station can turn on the radio.

Removal

1. Turn off the ignition.

2. Disconnect the negative (–) battery cable with the ignition off.

Warning: This will erase information from electronic memory units, such as the radio code. Without the code, the radio can only be switched on by the manufacturer or an AUDI service station. Therefore, please read the materials in the subsection Entering the radio code.

3. Insert the keys into the release slots (arrows) until they lock. The inscription "Top L" points to the left and up, "Top R" to the right and up.

4. Remove the radio from the instrument panel using the lugs.

Warning: Do not tilt the radio receiver or the tool used to release it.

5. Remove the radio and antenna plug connections. Disconnect the power supply connector. If the radio is connected without using serial plug connections, mark the cable to avoid confusion during assembly.

Installation

1. Remove both pull-out clamps from the radio.

2. Connect the plug connections on the back of the radio.

3. Press the radio into the instrument panel until the retaining springs engage.

4. Connect the battery ground (–) cable.

Warning: Activate the high-altitude automatic electric window lifter, and also set the clock and enter the radio code, refer to the subsection Entering the radio code.

5. Turn on the radio and check its operation. If the radio is installed with anti-theft coding, enter the secret code first.

Recommendations for self-installation of the radio receiver

  • For a radio receiver that does not match the standard car radio, there is a corresponding adapter cable.

Warning: If the adapter cable is not used, pay attention to the fact that there is no uninsulated cable nearby. A short circuit may cause the cable to catch fire.

  • Ensure that only tested interference suppression elements are used (having permission for use). There are special parts available for sale that are approved for use in AUDI and come with installation instructions.
  • When connecting the speed signal wiring (for radios with GALA function = radio volume adaptation according to speed), make sure that it is not short-circuited, otherwise malfunctions of the engine management system in the vehicle, for example, may occur. Connecting the speed signal to a third-party radio may also cause malfunctions.
