Remove the bolts or nuts and remove the shock absorber from the vehicle.
If the thread is damaged, the threaded bushing of the shock absorber can be replaced.
Visually inspect the shock absorber for damage and fluid leaks.
Measure length A movable part of the shock absorber, which should be equal to (126±1) mm (pic. 16–7).
Pic. 16–7. Measuring the length of the moving part of the shock absorber
On the trace of abrasion, check the stroke of the movable part of the shock absorber, which should be no more than 30 mm.
If there is any doubt about the correct operation of the shock absorber, carry out a standard test as follows. Put a mark on the moving part of the shock absorber, at a distance of 45 mm from its body. Compress the shock absorber as far as possible with a press. After cessation of compression, the movable part of the shock absorber should exit the housing to its previous length in no more than 10 minutes. If the time exceeds 10 minutes, the shock absorber is defective and must be replaced.
