Remove the bolts or nuts and remove the shock absorber from the vehicle.
If the thread is damaged, the shock absorber threaded bushing can be replaced.
Visually inspect the shock absorber for damage and fluid leaks.
Measure the length a the movable part of the shock absorber, which should be equal to (126±1) mm (Fig. 16–7).

Fig. 16–7. Measuring the length of the movable part of the shock absorber
Using the abrasion marks, check the stroke of the movable part of the shock absorber, which should be no more than 30 mm.
If there is any doubt about the serviceability of the shock absorber, perform a standard test as follows. Apply a mark to the movable part of the shock absorber, at a distance of 45 mm from its housing. Using a press, compress the shock absorber as much as possible. After stopping compression, the movable part of the shock absorber should come out of the housing to its previous length in no more than 10 minutes. If the time exceeds 10 minutes, the shock absorber is faulty and must be replaced.
