All-wheel drive model of the car AUDI A3 is equipped with permanent all-wheel drive. To drive the rear wheels, the following elements are additionally required:
Power take-off unit from the front axle manual transmission to ensure the transfer of movement to the propeller shaft, which connects the manual transmission to the rear differential. From the rear axle differential, the movement is transmitted through the drive shafts to the rear wheels.
To accommodate the rear axle differential, the AUDI A3 all-wheel drive model has a double wishbone rear suspension and a two-piece fuel tank.
To equalize the different revolutions of the front and rear axles with all-wheel drive of the vehicle and to distribute the torque between the front and rear axles depending on the driving conditions, a Haldex clutch is used, mounted on the rear axle differential.
The Haldex clutch is an electronically controlled hydraulically actuated disc clutch. Depending on the signals from various sensors, such as the engine and ABS control units, the Haldex clutch control regulates the engagement of the rear axle. The four-wheel drive control recognizes the cause of individual wheel slip and different wheel speeds and distributes the torque between the front and rear wheels accordingly. The rear axle can be completely disengaged from the power drive, which removes the restrictions when towing with the front or rear axles raised. The all-wheel drive model can also be equipped with all electronic and hydraulic systems such as ABS, EDS, ASR, EBV and ESP.
Towing vehicles with all-wheel drive
Vehicles with all-wheel drive can be towed for a distance of up to 50 km at a speed of up to 50 km/h. Otherwise, towing must be carried out on a special conveyor by full loading.
Warning: Do not start the engine while towing. General instructions for towing are given in the Introduction.
