Warning: Before removing the airbag unit, be sure to take appropriate safety precautions.
Removal
1. Disconnect the negative (–) battery cable with the ignition off.
Warning: This will erase information from the electronic memory units, such as the radio code. Without the code, the radio can only be switched on by the manufacturer or an AUDI service station. Therefore, please read the instructions in the subsection Removal and installation the battery and subsection Entering the radio code.
2. Insulate the negative (–) terminal of the battery to prevent accidental contact.
3. Set the wheels straight ahead and the steering wheel to the center position.

4. Remove the two Torx screws securing the airbag unit using a T30 wrench.
5. Disconnect the airbag unit connector.
6. Remove the block and place it aside with the soft side facing up.
7. Do not change the position of the steering column (straight wheel position).
Installation
1. Connect the airbag connector.
2. Install the airbag on the steering wheel and tighten to a torque of 7 Nm.
3. Turn on the ignition, the ignition key must be in the "Drive" position.
Warning: Do not leave anyone in the vehicle while connecting the battery.
4. Connect the battery ground (–) cable.
Warning: Activate the automatic electric window lifter and set the clock, following the subsections Removal and installation the battery and Entering the radio code.
