Removal and installation the starter (Audi A3 8L)

Removal



Disconnect the negative (–) battery cable with the ignition off.

Warning: This will erase information from electronic memory units, such as the radio receiver code. Without the code, the radio receiver can only be switched on by the manufacturer or an AUDI service station. Therefore, please read the materials in the subsection Entering the radio code.


Diesel engine



1. Remove the battery, refer to subsection Removal and installation the battery.

2. Loosen the mounting bolts and remove the battery console (arrows in the illustration).

3. Disconnect wire –1–.

4. Disconnect connector –2– and remove it from the holder.

5. Disconnect wire –4– and unplug connector –3–.



6. Remove the wires from the guide.

7. Remove the upper starter mounting bolt –1–.

8. Remove the noise-absorbing element in the center.

9. Disconnect the power steering pressure line from the bracket (arrow on the right in the illustration).

10. Remove the lower starter mounting bolt –2–.

11. Pull the starter down.



Installation



1. Install the starter and secure it to the gearbox with a torque of 65 Nm.

2. Tighten the power steering pressure line to a torque of 20 Nm.

3. Connect the electrical wire of terminal 30 to the starter and tighten it to a torque of 16 Nm.

4. Connect the terminal 30 connector.

5. Install the central noise-absorbing element.

6. Diesel Engine: Secure the battery bracket and install the battery, refer to subsection Removal and installation the battery.

7. Connect the battery ground (–) cable. Caution: Activate the electric window lifter high-altitude automatics, and also set the clock and enter the radio code, refer to subsection Removal and installation the battery and Entering the radio code.
