Indication "dEF" on the trip odometer
If the control unit of the instrument cluster recognizes an error in the ROM, then the indication is displayed in the daily trip meter "dEF". When the indication appears "dEF" replace the instrument cluster control unit.
Withdrawal
Do not dismantle the instrument cluster control unit. If dash panel insert with control unit on control panel -J285- is to be replaced, select from menu "Guided Functions" function "Replacement" -3285-, Switch off the ignition and remove the ignition key.
Instruction. After installation, it is necessary to reinstall all cable ties that are removed or cut off during dismantling. The steering wheel does not need to be removed to remove the instrument cluster.
Set the steering wheel as far back and down as possible, use the entire range of steering column adjustment for this. Unscrew bolts -1-. Carefully lift cover of dash panel insert -2- upwards. If necessary, pry off with wedge -3409- and remove from dash panel. If the canopy cannot be removed in this way, the fixing plates -arrows- must also be unlocked on the footwell side. To do this, proceed as follows: turn the light switch to position "0". Press the switch -arrow 1- and simultaneously turn it to the right -arrow 2-.
While holding the switch in this position, remove the light switch from the switch housing -arrow 3-. Remove the storage compartment on the driver's side.
Remove trim -1- from dash panel insert in -direction of arrow-.
Remove bolts -3-. Remove instrument cluster upwards. Where present, cut through the cable ties on the back of the instrument cluster.
Unplug electrical connector from dash panel insert; to do this, release retainer by turning retaining clip in -direction of arrow- and pull out connector.
Unlock retaining clips -arrow- on left and right of dash panel insert. Remove trim -1- from instrument cluster.
Installation
Install in reverse order, taking into account that during installation, install all clamps in the places where they were originally installed. Plug in electrical connectors and secure wiring harness in clip on rear of dash panel insert -arrow-. Fit the upper fixing screw -3- with threaded lacquer.
Torque:
Instrument cluster to control panel: top. 3.5 Nm (install with thread varnish), bottom. 3.5 Nm.
