The torque converter serves as a hydrodynamic automatic clutch connecting the engine and transmission, and also provides some increase in torque as speed increases.
The planetary gearbox has four forward gears and one reverse gear. The gearbox elements are held and released by brake bands and clutches, which are controlled by a hydraulic control unit. A hydraulic pump installed in the gearbox creates the necessary pressure for the operation of the brake bands and clutches.
Warning: It is permitted to tow vehicles with automatic transmission for a distance of up to 50 km at a maximum speed of 50 km/h. If a flatbed for transporting vehicles is available, only the front of the vehicle may be lifted. All-wheel drive vehicles must be supported on the flatbed with all four wheels.
