Thermostat for 2.5L diesel engine (Audi A8 D2)

Drain the coolant.

Remove the timing belt.

Remove the timing belt.

Loosen the screws and remove the upper 2 (see Fig. 3.3–58) section of the timing belt cover.

Loosen the screws and remove the left 1 and right 3 timing belt covers.

Disconnect the electrical connector from the coolant temperature sensor.

Disconnect the coolant hose from the thermostat housing.

Remove the two bolts and remove the thermostat housing from the front of the cylinder head.

Remove the sealing ring and thermostat from the cylinder head. Check the thermostat for proper operation.

Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal.

Install the thermostat into the cylinder head so that the air bleed valve is located at the top.

Use new O-rings when installing.
