The lower and upper steering column covers are shown in Fig. 16–45.

Removal



Before disconnecting the battery, find out if you have a radio activation code.

Turn off the ignition and disconnect the ground wire from the battery.

Loosen the two mounting screws and remove the upper steering column cover (Fig. 16–46).

Set the vehicle's wheels to move straight ahead.

Using a wrench, loosen the Torx airbag mounting bolts located on the sides at the rear of the steering wheel (see Fig. 14–2).

Warning: The steering wheel helix electrical connector must not be disconnected when removing the steering wheel.


Tilt the airbag back, disconnect the electrical connector and remove the airbag.

Disconnect the electrical connector from the steering wheel coil.

unscrew the nut (or bolt) and remove the steering wheel.

Remove the lower casing cover by pulling it towards you.

On models with mechanical steering column adjustment, unscrew screws 1 (Fig. 16–47) and remove the steering column adjustment knob.

Unscrew screws 7 and 8 and remove the lower steering column cover.

On models with electric steering column adjustment, disconnect the electrical connector from the steering column adjustment switch. Unscrew the mounting bolts of the switch and remove it.

Installation



Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal.
