The oxygen sensor (λ-probe) is used to regulate the composition of exhaust gases in gasoline engines. It is screwed into the intake pipe near the catalytic converter.

Removal

Warning: There is a danger when lifting and placing the vehicle on stands! Therefore, please read the subsection first Jacking up a car.

1. Raise and place the vehicle on stands.

2. Unscrew the plug connection cover of the oxygen sensor next to the catalytic converter. Disconnect the electrical wire with clamps at the heat shield. Remove the connector from the cover and disconnect it.

3. Unscrew the oxygen sensor from the pipe using a wrench, for example HAZET 4680–3.

Installation

1. Lubricate the threads of the oxygen sensor with special AUDI "G5" grease. New sensors are already coated with the specified grease.

Warning: Do not allow G5 to enter the splines of the sensor housing. Do not touch or contaminate the housing of the new sensor if possible.

2. Screw the sensor into the exhaust pipe with a torque of 50 Nm.

3. Route the sensor cable through the clamps and connect. Screw on the plug connection cover at the bottom.

4. Lower the car onto its wheels.
