The grooves in the tire tread pattern contain 1.6 mm high tire wear indicators located at right angles to the direction of the tire's forward motion. Indicators (six to eight depending on the manufacturer) placed at equal distances around the circumference of the tire. Tire sidewall marking (e.g. letters TWI or triangle icon) show the location of the tire wear indicators (pic. 13–1).
Intensive tire wear is promoted by a sporty driving style, sudden acceleration and braking.
Tires can be used up to a tread height of 1.6 mm, that is, the depth of the tread grooves over the entire surface of the tire must be at least 1.6 mm. However, for safety reasons, it is recommended to change tires at a tread depth of 2 mm.
Tires «M+S» on snow, they have sufficient traction with a tread height of at least 4 mm.
The tire should be inspected. If deep cuts reach the cord, the steel cord will corrode from penetrating moisture.
Worn tires do not provide the necessary traction, especially when driving at high speeds on wet roads. In addition, with worn tires, hydroplaning occurs much faster (loss of wet grip).
