Removal
1. Remove the tailgate trim, refer to subsection Removal and installation the tailgate trim.
2. Disconnect the rear window heating and wiper plug connections. Disconnect the single lock vacuum hose and the rear window washer hose.
3. Open the tailgate and place a support underneath it.

4. Disconnect the gas-filled strut at the top –2–. To do this, slightly lift the locking spring –1– with a screwdriver and remove the strut from the ball joint.

5. Mark the position of the tailgate at hinge –2–. To do this, use a felt-tip pen to outline the hinge mounting bolts.
6. Remove the mounting bolts –1– on the door hinge (from the hinge side) left and right.
7. Remove the door with the help of an assistant.
Installation
1. With the help of an assistant, install the tailgate back into place.
2. Screw in bolts –1– without tightening them yet.
3. Close the door.
4. Adjust the door position by moving it along the previously applied markings. Tighten the mounting bolts to 20 Nm. If a new door is being installed, its position must be adjusted, refer to the subsection Tailgate adjustment.

5. Install the gas-filled strut on the ball joint and secure it with the locking spring. Make sure it is in the correct position. Connect the strut to the body, see the illustration.
6. Connect the plug connections of the rear window heating and washer. Attach the vacuum hose of the single lock and the windshield washer hose.
7. Check the operation of the single lock and washer.
8. Reinstall the tailgate trim, refer to subsection Removal and installation the tailgate trim.
