The electric fan thermal switch is located on the left, halfway up the radiator.
The thermal switch has two switching stages. At elevated temperatures, it switches the fan on at a higher speed.
Execution order
1. Check fuse #3 for the electric fan in the fuse box/battery holder and replace if necessary.
Thermal Switch Cable Colors
| Step 1 | red/white |
| Step 2 | red/black |
| + | red |
2. Check if the radiator in the area of the thermal switch gets hot at all.
3. Disconnect the thermal switch connector. At the wire plug, first connect the + (plus) terminal to terminal 1 (red/white cable). The fan should rotate at slow speed. Then connect the + terminal to the 2 terminal (red/black cable). The fan should spin at a higher speed. If the fan spins in both cases, replace the thermal switch.
4. If the fan does not rotate, or if it rotates only at one speed, check the electrical wiring using a wiring diagram. Check the connections and the tightness of the fastening.
5. Fan mounting tightening torque: 35 Nm.
6. Check the operation of the new thermal switch. Start the engine and let it idle until the cooling fan comes on.
